Colour Mixing Caterpillar 🎨 πŸ–Œ πŸ›

28th Nov 2025

Our Infant artists learned all about the primary and secondary colours during our topic of Light and Dark. We took some inspiration from the storybooks 'Mixed: A Colourful Story' by Arree Chung and 'Elmer' by David McKee.

We then predicted and experimented with the colours to see what would happen if we did some colour mixing......producing some colour wheels in the process.

The children investigated what colours they could make using different combinations of two primary colours. We split paper plates into 6 sections. We painted 3 of the sections with the primary colours. We painted the section between them in the colour we created. We discovered that mixing primary colours ( red, yellow, blue) makes new colours called secondary colours ( green, orange, purple).

When the children were finished, we used our colour mixing creations to make a Junior and Senior Infant Caterpillar 🎨 πŸ› It was well worth the tremendous effort.
A fun collaborative class display!
Aren't they so cute 😍
