Go Explore! On the hunt for Minibeasts! ππͺ²ππ¦π·πͺ°π
ππ΅βοΈ Our challenge was to try and collect and identify as many different types of bugs/minibeasts as possible in the school environment!
This was a brilliant way for the children to get up close to nature and use their best detective skills to track the creatures down!
Many minibeasts, like butterflies, bees and beetles are more active in summer and our school grounds are teaming with wildlife!
Some prefer dark, sheltered spots, so this was a good place to start! We peeked under stones and mulch to find woodlice and millipedes.
We peered into cracks in tree bark and long grass to discover beetles and spiders.
We looked closely at leaves to discover caterpillars and ladybirds.
We focused on flowers to see bees and butterflies feasting on nectar.
We used special bug containers with magnifying lids which helped zoom in on really tiny details!

We then returned to the classroom, examined, identified and discussed the creatures that we found. We recorded and drew the minibeasts.
Minibeast hunting was so much fun!
After investigating, we carefully returned them to their homes ππΏπΈπΈπͺ¨π³πͺ΅
