Active Week 2015

Active Week 2015

Active School Flag

Active School FlagThe Department of Education and Skills wishes to recognise schools that strive to achieve a physical educated and physically active school community by awarding them the Active School Flag (ASF)

This year we are working towards achieving our first Active School Flag. This flag is awarded to schools which promote physical activity among their pupils. To help us reach this goal, we will be educating the children about the importance of daily exercise. Being more active improves your child’s concentration, helps them relax, gives them more energy and is lots of fun too. In school we are aiming to increase the amount of physical exercise each child undertakes.

Success!! June 2015

Active Flag Awarded!

Active School Committee proudly displaying the flag.

Flag raised by the youngest and oldest student members of the committee on our Sports Day, Friday 12th June.

It’s been a busy year for all the children and here are some of the activities they have engaged in so far this year. It started with the Cross Country running in Bellewstown and the Cumann na mBunscol Gaelic Football matches for the boys and girls in the senior classes.

In school we are aiming to walk/run/jog the equivalent distance to travelling to Blanchardstown. This is going very well and certificates are given out to the children on completion of every 5kms for the runners and joggers and 2.5kms for the walkers.

The Meath Local Sports Partnership have completed an athletics course with 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th classes and the coaches are coming back to complete an Athletics course with the rest of the school.

At the moment the Junior & Senior Infants and 1st /2nd classes are participating in a Fundamental G.A.A course. This course focuses on agility, balance and co-ordination.

Coaches from the G.A.A have started outdoor coaching in the school.

There were lots of oohs and aahs when we all settled down to watch a handball demonstration in the Gym. from a World Champion!

The Active School Flag committee are busy every day handing out hula-hoops, skipping ropes, basketballs and footballs at lunch time, everyone is busy getting more active. If it’s wet that won’t stop us we make sure that we dance in the classroom!!!

We will be heading to Navan swimming pool for swimming lessons after Easter.

Active School Week is coming up and we have lots of fun activities planned for the week. We’re hoping for a fine dry week!!!
